Vin à Porter is a service which allows you to take your favourite wines and spirits with you wherever you are travelling in the world. Like restaurants, luxury hotels and cruise lines apply a hefty markup to their wines – you may find yourself paying up to six times the retail price. And in far-flung destinations, you may find big brands like Jacobs Creek at £100 or past-their-best fine wines offered at exorbitant prices. With Vin à Porter you can drink exactly what you like at retail price.
So how does it work? During the initial consultation tell us where you are going (certain countries/cruise lines are not VAP friendly – see our table), your budget and the kind of wines you like and we will curate the perfect case. We pack the wines (maximum 8 bottles) into one of our robust flight cases on wheels and deliver to your door. You check in the case as part of your luggage (allow 16-20kg) for a full case. When you get home we pick up the empty case.
As well as wines drawn from our own cellars we work with many of the UK’s best wine merchants and can source virtually any wine. If you are travelling to a wine region you can reuse the case on the return leg to bring back some bottles, saving both duty and the shipping costs.
We also offer a Corkage Service, Wine List Service, winery tours and wine holidays (see Services page for full details).
Our robust cases are bespoke-made in Germany to the highest specifications. Cases are both dust and waterproof and have an automatic pressure compensation valve. Two eyelets allow the cases to be locked with a conventional TSA lock. Eight bottles fit snugly into the thick protective foam inserts of the heavy-duty flight case, which has wheels and a telescopic handle for effortless handling. Empty the case weighs just under 6kg. Eight wine bottles weigh 10kg and eight Champagne bottles weigh 14kg, so allow 16-20kg for a full case.

Marie, London Destination: Hawaii
My husband took me to Hawaii for my 40th birthday. Before we traveled he looked at the hotel wine list and found that is was mostly oaky, expensive Californian wines - really not what I want to drink on holiday! Matt put together a lovely selection and we had delicious Chablis by the pool using his nifty flask and travel cups. We drank most of the wines on our private balcony, but did pay corkage in the restaurant on the night of my birthday. It really didn't cause any kind of palaver - the sommelier was actually impressed by our selection and similar champagnes on his list were super pricey! Great idea and fantastic door to door service.
Andre, Brighton - Tenerife
We go regularly to a 5* hotel in Tenerife that has a 2* Spanish restaurant and 1* Japanese. The food is sublime, but wine prices sky high. Matt arranged for us to have a special bottle in each of the restaurants saving us about 600 euros on the wine list prices. We also used the thermos flask by the pool filled with crisp Provence rosé rather than the local 'vin de piss' at 25 euros a pop. The ultimate travel service!
Kylie, London Destination: Algarve
We have a villa in the Algarve and go over 4-5 times a year. We love the local food, but just get on with the wines. Matt gave us a selection of classic Italian and French whites. Spirits are much cheaper in Portugal and we fill the case with Port and spirits for the return leg. Delivery and collection of the case is always prompt. Wish we had known about this sooner.
Rob, Guilford Destination: Tuscany
It might seem ridiculous to bring wine to Tuscany, but my wife just doesn't get on with dry whites or Prosecco. Matt selected some great German rieslings that went down a treat by the pool and a few bottles of Champagne that kept my wife very happy. We visited some amazing producers in Bolgheri and Brunello and rather than pay the exorbitant shipping I just brought them back in the case. Genius!
Dan, London Destination: Bali
We are regulars in Matt's shop. We were traveling to Bali for a family holiday to a 5* resort. I asked Matt to have a look at the hotel list and there was Yellow Tail Shiraz at ¢90 and some overpriced fine wines that had seen better days (in his opinion. We were staying in a villa and eating in most night so it was great to have our favourite whites to accompany the delicious Balinese food. On my wife's birthday Matt had arranged corkage in the fine dining restaurant and we had an amazing bottle of Billecart Blanc de Blanc at a fraction of the prices being charged by the restaurant. We will definitely use the wine concierge again.
